Sam Fender has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the Britain's independent concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on 16 October as his third album his work was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function local spots played in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved this success if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation assisted locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges caused by flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The concept that revenue from shows in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

When Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their album their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite divided her award between a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their act, as well as other local music groups.

Also the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"The victory was ample," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory touched another person's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had rescued several small stages in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in the city and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the venues.
