Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
